Intuit's QuickBooks Mobile for iOS -- the iPhone's operating system -- and Android smartphone platforms allow you to take your business on the go, creating invoices and obtaining customer info and sales data on your mobile device. For the most part, QuickBooks Mobile offers the same experience on both iOS and Android phones, but compatibility and download details vary. Across both platforms, the features, pricing, and support of QuickBooks Mobile change over time as Intuit continues to update the app.
Features
Both versions of QuickBooks Mobile have the same core features. On both iOS and Android platforms, the app allows you to add, view, and edit customer information, as well as manage outstanding balances. It allows you to create, view, and email estimates, invoices, sales receipts, and features estimate-to-invoice conversion. Because features don't vary across platforms, the choice between QuickBooks on iOS or Android ultimately boils down to the device or devices you own or prefer.
Platforms
As of 2012, QuickBooks for Apple runs on Apple mobile devices -- including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- with iOS versions 4.2 through 5.1. For Android platforms, the application requires Android version 2.1 or later. The Android version is a slightly slimmer app, at 2.5MB compared to the heftier 5.3MB of the iOS version.
Availability and Pricing
Apple's App Store and the Android Market both offer QuickBooks Mobile is a free download. The App store gives the program a “4+” rating, while the Android Market gives it a “Low Maturity” content rating -- both ratings mean that the app contains no objectionable material. As of May 2012, 1,169 App Store customers rated QuickBooks Mobile for iOS 3.5 out of 5 stars, while 849 Android users rated the program 4 out of 5 stars.
Considerations
Because QuickBooks Mobile is a companion application, both iOS and Android versions of QuickBooks Mobile require an existing subscription to QuickBooks Online or the QuickBooks Connect feature of QuickBooks for Windows. Note that the app is not compatible with QuickBooks for Mac. As of 2012, the iOS version of QuickBooks has reached version 1.8.1, while the Android version has reached 2.7. Both versions feature Intuit support, available at qbconnect@intuit.com for iOS users and qbconnectandroid@intuit.com for Android users.
